Major: Political science; minor in math and history

As an undergraduate, Anne worked with a professor and fellow students to create the Diversity and Inclusion in Math Club with the goal of fostering community among traditionally underrepresented students of math. She was also member of the women’s crew team, the model UN, and studied abroad in Australia. Now Anne is earning an MBA—with one year of additional study and a tuition scholarship—through Clark’s 4+1 Accelerated Master’s.

Panera is ranked among Fortune’s “World’s Most Admired Companies.” In 2010, Shaich spearheaded the Panera Cares initiative, which created nonprofit community cafes to ensure that anyone can get a meal in a dignified dining environment and to raise awareness about food insecurity.

If you’ve ever enjoyed an amazing sandwich at Panera Bread you can thank Ron Shaich, who revolutionized the concept of casual dining when he founded the popular bakery-café. Ron got his start in business by opening a general store on campus while still a Clark student. He recently wrote the bestselling book “Know What Matters,” which offers strategies for transforming your life.

At Clark, Katie investigated the how the descendants of Holocaust survivors may have inherited factors that increase the risk of heart disease. Now she’s a research assistant at UMass Chan Medical School.

As an undergraduate at Clark, Andrew worked on the Risk Assessment and Behavioral Health Screening (RABS) project to help give juvenile offenders the level of service most appropriate for them and improve future outcomes. Now, Andrew is a licensed educational psychologist serving as president of the Massachusetts School Psychologists Association.

Katie Healey ’24 put her psychology degree to work right after graduation as a dialectical behavioral therapy case worker helping young adults dealing with serious mental health concerns.
In addition to serving as a Wellness Ambassador, Katie researched cases and testified on a range of scientific matters for Clark’s Mock Trial team, winning awards at several tournaments.

Katie thrived in and out of the classroom at Clark. She put her psychology degree to work right after graduation as a dialectical behavioral therapy case worker helping young adults dealing with serious mental health concerns.

As an aspiring veterinarian, Ibeth enjoyed working with lizards and salamanders in the Professor Bergman’s Evolutionary Functional Morphology Laboratory. She also tried arranging music for the first time for the class Making Music — a process she found both difficult and exciting. Recently, Ibeth earned her Master’s in Animals and Public Policy from Tufts University and began a new role as a clinical surgery assistant with the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Veterinary school is next, and she eventually hopes to open her own practice within a Spanish-speaking community.

Major: English

Photojournalist Spencer Platt started as a Worcester street photographer while a student at Clark.

Since then, he has witnessed history, capturing memorable images in war zones across the globe; in New York during the Sept. 11 attack; and on the steps of the Capitol building during the Jan. 6 riot. His compelling photos have earned him multiple prestigious awards, including the Pulitzer Prize.

Contribute to stronger, more resilient communities

Major: Geography, Political Science minor

At Clark, Ryan worked with researchers in Brazil and proposed novel methods of measuring rainforest loss in the Roraima region. He also studied the socioeconomic drivers and spatial patterns around voter registration and interned at ESRI, the company that builds ArcGIS geographic information system mapping software. After obtaining an M.S. in Geographic Information Science through Clark’s 4+1 Accelerated Master’s, Ryan began work as a solutions engineer at ESRI, helping businesses and organizations in all industries, governments, and communities use GIS technology to inform decisions, track data, plan for the future, and respond to emergencies.

After many years as a public defender and as a District Court Judge serving the people of Massachusetts, Margaret Guzman was sworn in as a United States District Court Judge in 2023. She is the first person of Hispanic heritage to serve as a federal judge in Massachusetts. “I’m going to be fair, and I’m going to bring a different voice,” she said.

Nassim served as chief of operations for Model UN, treasurer of the Muslim Student Association, and he co-founded the Middle Eastern and North African Student Association. He also participated in a dance performance at Clark’s annual International Gala event.

For his honors thesis, Nassim researched how different trade sectors affect levels of inequality, especially in countries that have an abundance of one resource. After graduation he worked at a foreign policy think tank in Washington, D.C. and is pursuing a masters in international relations at John Hopkins University.

Initially drawn to Clark for its international community, Alexandre participated in the Caribbean African Student Association, The Black Student Union, and the Latin American Student Organization in addition to playing on the varsity basketball and tennis teams.

At Clark, Alexandre worked on hands-on projects in several languages, including translations of: “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou into Spanish; the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s psychiatry research information into Spanish; and Family Health Center information into French. After graduation, he served as an English teaching assistant in Yilan, Taiwan on a Fulbright scholarship and is pursuing a Master’s in International Relations at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Nanjing, China and Washington  D.C.

Environmental leadership

Ecologist Quincy Milton III ’20, M.S. ’21 earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology at Clark. Today, he works for an environmental engineering firm in Rhode Island, using GIS technology and other research methods to solve challenges at the fragile intersection between nature and industry.

Anthony works as a geospatial analyst for Environmental Defense Fund and team member for MethaneSAT, which recently launched the world’s first independent NGO satellite. The satellite will soon be able to measure methane on roughly 80% of the planet.

Linnea Menin ’19 helped collect and process samples from kettle ponds on Cape Cod to determine the ponds’ health.
Funded by the University’s Steinbrecher Fellowship and Summer Scholars Program, Linnea works with Assistant Professor Nathan Ahlgren and doctoral candidate Emily Dart on a study of the microbial communities found local water systems.

Technology

Advance what is possible

Stanley Pierre Louis ’92, President and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association, the trade association of the IU.S. video game industry.
As pursued his degree in history, Stanley took advantage of all Clark had to offer: becoming vice president of the Fiat Lux Society, earning membership in Phi Beta Kappa, joining a band, playing double bass in the Clark Chamber Orchestra, and managing the orchestra. He also completed an internship in Washington, D.C., and spent his junior year at the London School of Economics.

As president and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association, the trade association of the U.S. video game industry, Stanley Pierre-Louis ’92 touts the cultural impact and career opportunities in top-level game design.

Pierre-Louis, who traces his own interest in video games to Pong and other early Atari offerings, noted that today’s games are painstakingly researched, drawing on history, archaeology, and other scholarly disciplines to inform their narratives and visuals. The result is a steady supply of games of elevated sophistication and widening appeal.

On a recent return visit to campus, he delivered a clear message to Clark students: “They are always hiring in our industry.”

At Clark, Nina served as president of the Clark Competitive Computing Club, which seeks to expand the diversity of students involved in the STEM fields. She secured a Microsoft Explorer internship before getting a full-time offer from the software giant.
